SOUTH BEND - Roy Chevrie Jr., 84, passed away at 2:00 am Monday, March 10, 2014 in his residence. Roy was born on February 27, 1930 in Mishawaka to Roy and Esther (Stanage) Chevrie Sr. He was employed by Wheelabrator-Fry for 33 years; he served his country in the United States Marines and fought in the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea and was a part of the Chosin Few. He was a member of the VFW 360, American Legion 303 and the Marine Corps League. On September 27, 1951 in South Bend he married the former Janet Kline who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Kathy King and Renee Samuels both of South Bend, a son, Roy "RC" Chevrie III of South Bend; 7 grandchildren: Candi, Ashley, Luke, Travis, Kaysi, Laura, and Bryan, 9 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and a brother, Lonnie Chevrie of Abilene, TX. Roy was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Dallas, Wayne, and Ken. Funeral services will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue. Burial with military services will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5-7 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice.
