Vivian J. McFarland Sept. 8, 1925 - July 10, 2014 OSCEOLA - Vivian Jeannette McFarland, age 88, of Osceola, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Elkhart. Vivian was born September 8, 1925, in Hicksville, Ohio, to the late Celester and Edna (Perry) Doub. In October of 1944, she married Richard Strope. They divorced after 13 years. She later married Harry McFarland on May 30, 1961. They celebrated 38 years of marriage before his death. Survivors include her three grandchildren, Steve McMann, Aaron (Stacy) McMann and Wendy Treber; along with three great-grandchildren, Bryce McMann, Bethany Treber and Kylie McMann. Also surviving are 2 step-daughters-in-law, Sharon and Margo McFarland. Vivian was preceded in death by her children, Dennis Strope, Diana McMann, and her stepchildren, Myrl, Wayne and Terry McFarland. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Monday, July 14, 2014, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm and interment will be held privately on Tuesday, July 15, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Vivian was a graduate of Jamestown High School, class of 1943. She enjoyed keeping in touch with several of her classmates and would occasionally meet to have dinner and catch up on old times. She was also a longtime member of the Osceola United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Society, assisted with the church rummage sale, and volunteered with REAL Services. Vivian loved to travel. Many winters were spent in Florida, and she enjoyed making crafts from the many sea shells she gathered while there. She also enjoyed walking and belonged to a Euchre club for many years. In her memory, donations may be made to United Cancer Services of Elkhart.
