Oct. 31, 1933 - Sept. 30, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Walter Lue Moss-Rodgers was born on October 31, 1933, in Benham, Kentucky. Lovingly known as "Lue," she was the seventh child of the union of Green Moss and Ina (Brand) Moss, who both preceded her in death. Lue departed this life on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the age of 79. Walter Lue received Christ at an early age at Rising Star Baptist Church. Spending all of her childhood in Benham, KY, she graduated from Benham Colored School in 1952, attending Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN, in the fall of that same year. In 1954 she moved to Cleveland, Ohio. She united in holy matrimony to Rudolph Victor Rodgers of Cleveland, Ohio, on November 22, 1962. Rudolph also preceded her in death. To the union two children were born, Victor Marc and Wanda Michelle. She worked various jobs until finding her calling in the healthcare field, receiving her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for the Wade Park - Veterans Administration Medical Center for over 20 years, retiring at the age of 65 in 1999. Like her husband Rudolph, she had a love for the Scouting movement. Working alongside her husband she helped to establish many packs and troops in the Cleveland area. A highly recognized member of the Scouting community, in 1981 Lue was honored with the Silver Beaver Award - the highest award given to a volunteer in Scouting. Along with her parents and her husband, Lue was preceded in death by five siblings: Eula Mae Hammons, Lester Carl "L.C." Moss, Cornell Moss, Doretha Barber and Nancy Moseley. Fond memories of her will be cherished by her son, Victor Marc Rodgers and his wife, Rebecca; daughter, Wanda Michelle Rodgers; two grandchildren: Robert C. Jackson and Shenaa U. Jackson; one great-grandchild, Skylar Jackson; 3 devoted sisters: Anna Mullen, Armenia Ashby and Jean Mason, all of Cleveland, OH; brothers: Odell Moss of Lexington, KY, and Edgar James Moss (Barbara) of Newington, CT; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services for Walter Lue Rodgers will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, in Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend.
