William Powell "Bill" Osborne

William Powell "Bill" Osborne Jan. 10, 1935 - May 26, 2014 KNOXVILLE, TN - First Sergeant (Retired) William Powell "Bill" Osborne, age 79, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, in his hometown of Knoxville, TN. Mr. Osborne was born in Knoxville, TN, the home to which he returned after serving his country first in the US Navy Reserve and then in the US Army for more than 26 years. He served one tour in Viet Nam and was stationed in Germany, Hawaii, and multiple locations in the continental United States before retiring as the 1SG at Company B, Military Police Processing, at the US Army reception station at Fort McLellan, AL. Mr. Osborne served his community proudly as a member of the Knox County Sheriff's Department Senior Citizen Awareness Network (SCAN), and through his devotion to God as a member of Central Church of God, Knoxville, TN. He volunteered countless hours serving and supporting friends, family and neighbors. Preceded in death by brother, Andrew T. Osborne of GA; sister, Sally Osborne of IN; and mother and father, Velma and Theodore Osborne, both of Knoxville, TN. Survived by his children, Debbie Moore of Brazoria, TX, MAJ (Ret) Denise Lyons of Cadiz, KY, and LTC (Ret) Ross Osborne of Manassas, VA; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his current wife, Georgia; sister, Patricia Osborne of IN; and many nieces and nephews, notably including USAF SSgt (Ret) Ron Heyse of IN. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Bridges Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jack Dean and Pastor Billy Baker officiating. After the service, family and friends will proceed to East TN Veteran Cemetery-John Sevier for the interment with full military honors.
