Deshawn Smith Obituary

Deshawn

Damar Smith

Jan. 19, 1996 - July 5, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Deshawn Damar Smith passed away at the age of 20 on the morning of Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

Deshawn was born on January 19, 1996, in Elkhart, Indiana. He was the second child and first son born. He loved his adopted mother dearly and they had a special relationship. In addition, he loved his godparents very much and their home was his second home. He enjoyed doing things with them as a child. A special cousin and guardian, Tommy Holliday, spent a lot of time with him and Deshawn loved him so much. Deshawn was a lovable and joyful person to be around; he was the spark in your day. He loved to talk and be around family and friends; he would befriend or help anyone that he was around. Deshawn loved people and that was the way he was raised as a child in a Christian home, to love everyone.

He enjoyed participating in Sunday school as a youth. When it was time to be asked a question about the lesson, he was always eager to answer the questions. At an early age, Deshawn knew all of the books of the Bible. He also knew how to read the Bible well. He was a gifted person who was easy to catch on to anything. If you would show him how to do something, he would get it the first time and later would show you an easier and better way to do it. Deshawn loved to draw and he could look at anything and draw it just the way it looked. Also, he had a love for animals. Deshawn gave love and he was much loved in return. We will greatly miss him.

Deshawn received his GED and was employed by Mobile Climate Control.

Deshawn leaves to cherish his memory his adopted mother, Evangelist Missionary Juanita Smith; his biological mother and father, Michelle Molik and Gregory Fleming, all of Elkhart; one sister, Marissa Molik, Merrillville, IN; one brother, Averius Molik, Elkhart; grandparents, Barbara Fleming of Michigan City, IN, and Robert and Joyce Molik, Merrillville, IN; great-grandmother, Mary A. Butcher, Michigan City, IN; godparents, Mcilwraith and Veronica Peoples; cousin and guardian, Tommy and Ellen Holliday, all of Elkhart; dear and special friends, Jim Victor, Beth A. Montana, Beverly Grace, Babette (Richard) Boling, Belinda (Paul) Bouchman; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services for Deshawn Smith will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 12 noon at Canaan Baptist Church, 933 Fieldhouse Street, Elkhart, IN 46517. Interment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart. Viewing will occur at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

I love you light bright. I will miss you dearly along with our close bond. I will never forget the way you spoke, your words ran deep. Not one person can say you weren't an extraordinary person. You knew how to make me laugh when I was sad, without even a single effort. I'll miss you everyday, and cherish every moment we shared. Thank you for protecting me as the great person you were, I have no doubt you'll be the best guardian angel.
