SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Anna Mae Watkins (Jefferson), 96, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on April 8, 1917, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Tom Neeley and Pearl Jefferson (Starkey). Ann married Ernest Mangum in the early 1940s, and later moved to South Bend where she worked as a dietician at St. Mary's College. She married husband OT Watkins in 1963, and moved to Lansing, MI, to work in the MSU Physical Plant department, until retiring in 1985. She was very involved in VFW Posts as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. Ann loved making ceramics and spending time with her family. Ann is survived by her two sisters, Barbara Jean Cougar and Pearl Dillard; her three daughters, Ernestine Lester, Barbara Ann Griffin and Linda Kelley; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service for Mrs. Watkins will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Alford's Mortuary in South Bend, located at 1222 Napier St., with the family receiving relatives and friends from 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 137 E. Indiana Ave. The interment will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday at Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens at 4444 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI.
