BUCHANAN - Ardannie "Day" Baber, 88, of Buchanan, MI, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Day was born April 24, 1925, in Clay City, KY, to Stanley and Dolly Baber. On June 19, 1946, Day married A. Jean Nelson. Day was an Army Veteran. He was captured at Normandy during the Battle of the Bulge, a Prisoner of War at Stalag 9B, Bad Orb, Germany, and was liberated by General George Patton. Day was also an avid hunter, fisherman, loved to garage sale, and enjoyed gardening, mushrooming, raising chickens, and was a member of the American Legion Post #51 and Disabled American Veterans. Day is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Dan (Connie) Baber of Buchanan, Bill (Sue) Baber of Berrien Springs, Nelson (Lori) Baber of Buchanan, and Jeanette Wagner of Buchanan; brother, Roy (Phyllis) Baber of Buchanan; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grand child. Day is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter Jeannie Thurston. Visitation will take place Friday, November 8, 2013, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., with service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at Hoven Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Babcock of Buchanan Christian Church officiating.
