I came to St. Mary's because of Humanistic Studies, and I particularly enjoyed the book discussions in the Colloquium. How impatient I was to start the course, and I had to wait until junior year! When I was there, almost everyone double majored in Business, which annoyed me! I triple majored in History (US, thanks to Watergate) and Theater (history and criticism), while studying singing. I'm so grateful to SMC and my parents for this education, and I'm grateful to Sister Madaleva for bringing Dr. Schlesinger to St. Mary's. And I extend my condolences to his family.

Bruno Schlesinger was not only a wonderful teacher, but a fine human being. I have thought of him so often since experiencing his wisdom and insight. Many times have heard his soft voice, reminding me and fellow classmates to "think of the big picture". That applies to every aspect of life! His family was blessed to have him so long, and I am sure he appreciated all their love and kind attention. He will be remembered.

I double-majored in Philosophy and Christian Culture, and the latter was the basis for my later involvement in interdisciplinary teaching and professional activity. Bruno always led us to see the bigger picture surrounding historical events and trends. My condolences to his family. Joan Fiscella (Oak Park, IL)

I not only majored in Christian Culture, but I taught in the department for a couple of years after gaining an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My focus on cultural (especially religious) and social history is my tribute to Bruno. Bruno's offer of a job in Hum. Stud. came at a crucial crossroads of my life and was responsible for my decision to return to graduate work in History at Wisconsin. By example he taught me how to think critically and to teach.
Like many of Bruno's students I have known his family -- Alice, Mary and Cathy and John and Tommy as well.
As a foreign student with no permanent home in the USA, it meant a great deal to have the friendship and support of both Bruno and Alice and I enjoyed conversations with the children.
Over the years, Bruno and Alice have been only a thought away. Death is hardly a reason for that to stop. My love and sympathy to all of you.
