SOUTH BEND - Charlie Mae Cole, 85, passed away at 8:30 am on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana. Charlie was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 18, 1928 to Anna Mae Asberry and Mose Fisher. Both parents preceded her in death. She retired from Memorial Hospital of South Bend in 1992 as an Environmental Services Aide. She also traveled and sang with the Jericho singers in her earlier years and was a dedicated member and Mother of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. She was the first of five generations still living, making her the Queen and heart of the family, assisting in the upbringing of all generations that followed. Charlie enjoyed her frequent weekend outings to thrift stores and is well-known for her famous dishes -- peach cobbler and bread pudding, which were highly enjoyed by the family. Her most memorable and cherished moments were spent with her daughter and each generation of grandchildren. Charlie is survived by her daughter, Lizzie Vinson; five grandchildren: Gloria Vinson, Patricia French, Willie Vinson, Christopher Vinson and Tony Layne; five great-grandchildren: April Nance, Crystal Nance, JaLisa Tobar, Ashley Nance, and Brittney Nance; three great-great grandchildren: Dereounna, Zavondria, and Jaycion Nance; special cousins: Elvester Harris, Edward Crowder, Tina Gilbert, William Gilbert, Tatiyana Styles, Torrian Gilbert, and Trey'V'Yon Gilbert; and special friends: Steven Pigee, Grace Brown, Mildred Toles, Bobby Toles, Therese Petty and family, and Sonya Gordon and family. Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 24393 Fillmore Road, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
