OSCEOLA - Daniel W. Perkins, 58, of Osceola, passed away at 8:41 a.m. at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1954, in Mishawaka, to Orville and Aleta (Longfield) Perkins. On July 25, 1981, in Osceola, he married Tina Foster. She survives along with their son, Karl (Michelle) Perkins of Elkhart; daughter, Dawnta Perkins of Osceola; two grandchildren, Emma and Dylan Balentine of Elkhart; his father, Orville Perkins of Osceola; two brothers, Gary (Teresa) Perkins and Ken (Mary) Perkins, both of Osceola; a sister, Diane (Tom) Reamer of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Tammy (Mark) Freeman of Gaston, South Carolina; mother- and father-in-law, Denny and Pat Ditsch of Osceola; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Aleta Perkins; and his brother, Rick Perkins. Dan was a truck driver who worked for Preston Trucking for 18 years. He also worked for Deerborn, Midwest Logistics and Starcartage. He was a member of Teamsters 364, served on the Osceola Civil Defense and Osceola Fire Department for 33-plus years. Dan loved bowling, Pepsi, helping out in his community, spending time with his family, and picking on people. He was dedicated to the Osceola Fire Department and his community and will be greatly missed. Visitation for Dan will be on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home from 4 until 8 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, April 5th, at 10:00 a.m., with an hour prior visitation at Osceola United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bob Vale presiding, and burial to follow at Osceola Cemetery. The Osceola Fire Department will do Last Call for Dan following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Osceola Fire Department or to the Osceola United Methodist Church. Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
