Dorothy P. "Dodie" Akin Oct. 25, 1923 - April 20, 2014 OSCEOLA - Dorothy Pauline "Dodie" Akin, age 90, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Osceola, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, after an extended illness. Dodie was born October 25, 1923, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Robert Hurshel and Hazel Elizabeth (Enders) Purple. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ray Fulmer and Duane Akin, as well as her son-in-law, Dave Slaven. Surviving members of the family include her sister, Ruby Dipert of Mishawaka; her children, Sandra Miller (Bill) of Tarvares, FL, Dr. Christina Fulmer of Nairobi, Kenya, Debra Slaven of Bradenton, FL, Lisa Switalski (Michael) of Mishawaka, IN, and Robert Robaska of Arizona, along with a stepson, Kim (Kitty) Fulmer of Osceola. Surviving as well are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, Indiana. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Dodie was a homemaker who truly enjoyed being a wife and mother to her family. She loved to cook and travel, and was a devoted Christian, who loved her Pastor and Church. She was a longtime member of Twin City Baptist Church, Mishawaka, where she and her husband Duane served as greeters on Sunday mornings for many years.
