Elizabeth "Betty" Hochstetler Feb. 14, 1920 - April 23, 2014 NAPPANEE - Elizabeth "Betty" Hochstetler, age 94, formerly of Nappanee, died at 5:00 am Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Cardinal Center in South Bend. She had moved to Cardinal Center 6 weeks ago from Hubbard Hill Retirement Home. She was born February 14, 1920, in Michigan, to Harvey and Lovina Kauffman. Elizabeth moved to Nappanee from Illinois when she was 21 and had lived there most of her life. She was a housewife and a member of First Mennonite Church. She had also been a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Elizabeth enjoyed needlepoint and quilting, also playing board games, cards, and bingo. Elizabeth was married to William Hochstetler in August 1941. He preceded in death March 1977. Surviving are her sons, Paul William (Helen) Hochstetler, South Bend, Charles Alan (Leann) Hochstetler, Mission, KS, Roger Eugene (Sidney) Hochstetler, Ballwin, MO; a grandson, Blake Hochstetler, South Bend; great-grandchildren, Paul Bradley Hochstetler and Emma Katherine Hochstetler; and a number of step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hochstetler in 1945; sisters, Laura Miller, Katie Eichor, Mattie Pothoff; and brother, Eddie Kauffman. Family and friends may call from 6-9 Friday, April 25, 2014, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for 1 hour prior to the 10:30 am funeral service, Saturday, April 26, at First Mennonite Church. Rev. Janet McFall-Brown will officiate and burial will be at South Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Mennonite Church.
