GRANGER - Eugene (Geno) J. Botka best friend and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle went to be with God on October 29, 2013 at 7:15 am surrounded by his loving family. Geno was born February 16, 1939 to the late Louis and Hattie (Szymanowski) Botka. Geno is also preceded in death by his brothers, Louis (Bubs) Botka, Chester Botka; and sister, Evelyn Kulwicki. Geno and his loving wife Nancy (Nitka) Botka were married on August 26, 1961 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Nancy survives along with their children, Brian Botka of Ashburn, VA, Kevin Botka, and Eric J. Botka both of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Brianna and Mason Botka of Granger, who referred to Geno as Dzia Dzia; brothers, Richard Botka; Clement Botka, John (Marilyn) Botka all of South Bend; and sister, Alice Janisczak of Mishawaka; and numerous nieces and nephews. Geno graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1957. He attended Ivy Tech, and received a Business Administration and Marketing Degree from Indiana University South Bend in 1984. He worked for Studebakers until closing, as well as the Bendix Corporation. Geno retired from the Bayer Corporation after 33 years of service as a Superintendent of Machine Maintenance. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he was Hospitality and Eucharist Minister; he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly #242; and the Father Baden Council #4263. In his younger days he was a little league baseball coach and a basketball coach at YMCA in South Bend. He was a former CCD teacher at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in South Bend. You knew Geno was happy when he was whistling. He loved carpentry and working on cars, camping in his younger days, bowling and golf. His favorite past time was playing with his grandchildren. Visitation for Geno will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, November 1, 2013 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm pm Saturday, November 2, 2013 in St. Pius X Catholic Church, where there will be a 30 minute visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that Memorial Contributions be made to the Center for Hospice, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. Additionally, the family would like to express their appreciation to the team of hospice caregivers, especially Julie, that provided excellent care for Geno.
