GRANGER - Gordon Franklin Butler, 83, of Granger, passed away surrounded by family on November 21, 2013, in his home. Gordon was born April 29, 1930, in Elkhart, to the late Gerald and Gertrude (Husted) Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Jessie James Butler. Surviving are his wife, Josie (Steves) Butler; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jack Zuidema of Elkhart; six children, Rick (Jamie) Butler of Morrison, CO, Melody (Steve) Griego of NM, Janna Hebel of Lakewood, CO, Jim Butler of Ft. Meade, FL, Beth Rastok of Thornton, CO, and K.C. Butler of Evergreen, CO. Gordon has 10 surviving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Gordon attended Elkhart Central. He enlisted in the Air Force and served in Guam in the South Pacific. He played football with the Air Force and later played semi-pro football in California. Gordon started as a custom homebuilder in the Elkhart area to become a general contractor and construction manager for banks and office buildings nationwide. After retirement from the construction industry, Gordon and Josie purchased a mobile home RV park in Frostproof, Florida, and spent many years operating the park. In his retirement years, he became an avid wood turner with a profound sense of the art. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, Indiana. A Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Assembly of God, 600 E. Bristol Street, Elkhart, IN, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013. He will be honored with an Air Force military burial.
