SOUTH BEND - Helen O. Bauman, 83, of South Bend, passed away at 4:00 AM on Sunday, April 21st, after a short illness. Helen was born on August 8, 1929, in Ocala, FL, to LeRoy and Carrie E. Kalch. She had resided in the Michiana area all of her adult life. She retired from the Uniroyal Corporation in Mishawaka, IN, after 34 years of service. Helen is survived by two daughters, Barbara J. (John) Vogt of Granger, IN, and Linda J. Eckenberger of Mishawaka, IN; one son, Larry E. (Jane) Bennett of South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all whom she loved and cherished. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Ansley and Juanita Hankins; and five brothers, LeRoy Jr., George Hicks, Clarence Hicks, Woodrow Hicks and Olin Hicks. Helen enjoyed flowers and gardening, fishing, and, most of all, she enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She was a faithful member at South Side Baptist Church. Her heart and words were always full of praise, hope and encouragement. You are not forgotten, loved one. Nor will you ever be, as long as life and memory last, We will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore. As time goes by we'll miss you more. Your loving smile, your gentle face, No one can fill your vacant place. Helen was a devoted mother, sister, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her loving family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 24th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at South Side Baptist Church, located at the corner of Jackson Road and Miami Road in South Bend. Memorial services will take place at 12:00 PM, immediately following visitation with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. Her wishes were to be cremated, and cremation has taken place. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., located at 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN. 46637; or Pet Refuge, located at 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawka, IN 46544. The staff at HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/State Road 23, handled arrangements, and they extend their deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Helen O. Bauman family.
