Jean E. Freeman Sept. 15, 1926 - May 12, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Jean left our world to be with God and rejoin her parents, Frank and Bessie, sisters, Pansy and Lucille, brothers, Lloyd, Vance, Ralph, Lewis and Ivan; her husband, Joseph, and daughters, Deatra and Yvonne. Jean passed over at Memorial Hospital after an illness on May 10, 2014. She leaves five generations and is survived by her daughters, Kandie, Pamela, and Sabrina (Rory); son-in-law, Jim; grandchildren, Karen, Michael, Carmelina, Benjamin, Lavonne, Michele (Steve), Joshua (Patty), Lyndee (Chip), Heather, Libby, April, Phillip, and Patrick; 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Jean was born in North Judson in 1926 and raised on her parents' peppermint farm. Although Jean was "spoiled" she was not allowed to go fishing or do any work, for that matter, with her siblings. Jean was married to Joseph in 1947 in South Bend, Indiana, where they raised their five tomboy daughters. A garden, both parents working, and close family and friend's ties all contributed to the family`s continuity. Her hard work as a waitress and her generosity afforded her family a most complete and loving life. Jean's later life was actively involved in playing cards with her friends at Batell Center and the Senior Services at Howard Park gambling. Jean was not much on people buying her gifts. She would much rather have you make something or take her somewhere. That would be a gift from the heart. We rejoice in her life and the time we shared together. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 16th, in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, with Rev. Christopher Lapp officiating. Committal services and entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Memorial contributions may be made to Battell Center, 904 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN 46545; or Howard Park Senior Center, 604 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46617; or the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Pl., Mishawaka, IN, 46545. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
