SOUTH BEND - Joseph F. Egyhazi, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Joseph was born on February 1, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Julius and Elizabeth Egyhazi, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area. On June 28, 1947, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to Josephine (Oldani) Egyhazi, who preceded him in death on January 28, 2011. They were married for 64 years. Joseph worked at Torrington Company for 41 years as a bearing assembler, retiring in 1986. He honorably served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the 99th Infantry Division of the United States Army and is a World War II veteran and recipient of three Bronze Stars. Joseph attended South Bend Washington High School and is a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Bend. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Carole (Greg) Coffin of South Bend; two grandchildren, Joshua (Mary Dishman) Coffin of Durango, CO, and Gina (Eric) Coffin Smith of Auburn, AL; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Thomas Smith and Samuel Joseph Smith; sister, Florence Wisneski of South Bend; and three brothers, William (Faye) Egyhazi, Carl (Mary Lou) Egyhazi and John Egyhazi Sr., all of South Bend. Three sisters, Elizabeth Wolfram, Frances Mittermeyer, Martha Egyhazi, and two brothers, Julius Egyhazi Jr. and Stephen Egyhazi, all preceded Joseph in death. Funeral services for Mr. Egyhazi will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Entombment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church Education Fund, 920 Wilber St., South Bend, IN 46628.
