BOURBON - Juanita Mae Byrer 94, longtime resident of Bourbon, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 12:30 A.M. Juanita was born September 8, 1919 to Artie Ray Seymour and Eunice Evelyn (Deacon) Seymour at Bourbon. She married her high school sweetheart, Warren D. (Ham) Byrer on August 14, 1938; he died March 31, 2004. Juanita was a graduate of Bourbon High School, class of 1938 and, for many years, an active member of The Country Church of Bourbon. She had a beautiful singing voice and as a teenager was asked to sing on a radio station but because of the Depression that opportunity was delayed. She sang at many weddings and events. She and Han sang with Clyde (Jake) Berger and his wife Wilma in a quartet. They were called the "Hamberger Quartet". Juanita was a homemaker and always worked alongside Ham on the farm. She was a great mother and grandmother, she will always be remembered by her family. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Rae (Mrs. Roy) Gallinger and Sally Kay (Mrs. Jim) Fawley, all of Bourbon. She was further blessed with her five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a sister, Iris Smith (96 years old) of Plymouth and a half aunt, Kathryn Martin (97 years old) of Mishawaka. Proceeding in death were her parents, her husband and an infant sister. You are invited to share memories with the family from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 9, 2014 at The Country Church, located 2 miles north of Bourbon at the corner of 331 and 9B Road. A joyous celebration of Juanita's life will follow visitation, officiated by Rev. David Gould, pastor of The Country Church.
