SOUTH BEND - Marjorie A. Jewell, 89, of South Bend, passed away at 2:43 AM Sunday, January 20th, at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross after an extended illness. Mrs. Jewell was born on July 28, 1923, in South Bend, and had resided in the area her lifetime. On June 30, 1941, in South Bend, as Marjorie A. Ruff, she married Paul A. Jewell, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1997. She is survived by two sons, Paul M. (Donna) Jewell of Bremen, Indiana, and Gregory F. (Nora) Jewell of Fishers, IN; a wonderful son-in-law, Thomas Szymanski of Granger, IN; a sister, Florus Jeffers of Virginia Beach, VA; and a brother, Patrick N. (Carol) Ruff of South Bend. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband; a daughter, Victoria A. Szymanski, on August 11, 2012; and also by two sisters, Immula Gorgynski and Evelyn Parcher; and two brothers, Robert and Theodore Ruff. Marjorie was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family deeply as they loved her. She will be deeply missed by a loving family, church family, and all who had the opportunity to know this wonderful lady during her life journey. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was very active within the church. She loved cooking, being with her grandchildren, and family vacations traveling with her daughter and son-in-law to Hilton Head, SC. Visitation hours will be from 4-8 PM today, January 22nd, at the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road and Indiana 23, South Bend. A Rosary will be said at 4:30 PM today. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 AM Wednesday, January 23rd, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. Visitation in the church from 10:30 - 11:30 AM Wednesday. Rev./Fr. Terry Connan will officiate, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to The ALS Association of Indiana, 6525 E. 82nd St., Suite 115, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Jewell family.
