Dec. 15, 1936 - Jan. 11, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Mother Martha Lee (Taylor) Gilbert of East Howard Street, South Bend, Indiana, was taken into the arms of God at 5:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, in her residence following an illness. On December 15, 1936, in Brownsville, TN, she was born to the union of Richard Lee and Daisy (Hines) Taylor. Coming from Forest City, Arkansas, Martha relocated to South Bend in 1954. She and Percy Gilbert were united in marriage in 1978 in South Bend. He preceded her in death in 1994. In 2003, after ten years of employment, she retired from St. Mary's College. Mother Gilbert was a member of Emmanuel Lighthouse Deliverance Church where she served on the Mothers Board and was a minister. She formerly pastored the Family Center of God. She led a very spiritual life, and loved to fish. Those family members who survive to cherish her memory include two daughters, Merlene Taylor and Nerlene Taylor, both of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, VanDyke Taylor of Indianapolis, IN, and Ronald Childress of Las Vegas, NV; one great-grandchild, Kalen Taylor; four sisters, Daisy Taylor-Winborn, Lillian Taylor and Juanita Taylor, all of South Bend, IN, and Annie (Patio) Perez of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers, Joseph (Viola) Taylor, Willie (Betty) Taylor and James Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Bailey, all of South Bend, IN; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lee and Daisy Taylor; her husband, Percy; two sisters, Miriam Watson and Rosie Bailey; and by two brothers, Edward Taylor and Richard Taylor. The funeral service for Mother Martha Gilbert will be held at 12 noon Friday, January 18, 2013, at Emmanuel Lighthouse Deliverance Church, with Pastor Graylan Watson officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
