SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Rose Urband, 98, of North Hollywood, CA, formerly of Pyle Avenue in South Bend, passed away late Thursday in Burbank, CA, with her son by her side. Rose was born in Dubuque, IA, to the late Sam and Sarah (Watkin) Shapiro, both immigrants from Russia. She married Henon Urband, and he passed away on July 16, 2004. She was a cashier in the retail clothing industry for forty years, part of that time working at the former Milady Shop. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan; she liked to listen to music and loved to read. Rose was a former member of former Williams Street Shoal and Sinai Synagogue. She is survived by beloved son, with whom she made her home since moving to California, Jeff M. Urband of North Hollywood. Other survivors include cousins, Dora Yockelson, Norman Yockelson and Dr. Solomon Swierdsol; sister-in-law, Fran Shapiro; cousins, Gary Shapiro and Sid Shapiro; and a family friend, Phyllis Szymkowicz. A brother, Ed Shapiro, and schoolmates, Luba Minkow and Myrtle Inwald, also predeceased her. Funeral services will be in the Chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, on Thursday at 12:15 pm. To send condolences to her son, log on to
