Dec. 14, 1918 - June 26, 2012 LAPAZ - Velma Bernice Mangus, 93, passed away at 5:27 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Bremen Hospital, Bremen, IN. Velma was born on December 14, 1918 in Teegarden to the late Nelson and Gertrude (Harley) Baughman. She had been a lifelong area resident, having lived on the farm on Tyler Road for over 60 years. On May 10, 1941 in North Liberty, she married Quinten Mangus, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her grandchildren, Katie Mangus, Jennifer Mangus and Jeffrey Mangus; daughters-in-law, Louise Mangus and Ella Bridges; brother, Harley Baughman and his wife, Margaret; and sisters, Elaine Haycraft and Ruby Kaiser and her husband, Bob. Velma is survived by her three children: daughter, Marilyn Newbould of Pinellas Park, FL; and sons, Phillip (Cindy Clifton) Mangus of Plymouth and Barry (Debbie) Mangus of South Bend; granddaughter, Amy (David) Neikirk and their children, Kaley, Chloe, Anthony, Kalub, and Wyatt of Lakeville; grandson, Nick (Brandy) Mangus and their daughters, Arianna and Adalena of Portland, TX; grandson, Noah (Jill) Mangus and their daughter, Lily, of Torrance, CA; and grandson, Neil (Regan Harding) Mangus of South Bend. Velma is also survived by her sisters, Opal (the late Louis) Kranitz of North Liberty, Marian Bralick of Orange City, FL and Shirley (Roland) Lichtenbarger of Teegarden; sisters-in-law, Claire (the late Joseph) Kleiner of Chatham, NJ and Mary Ellen (the late Arthur) Klingerman of Bremen; and brother-in-law, Donovan (Marie Gaudard) VanOsdol of Hernando, FL. Velma formerly attended Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, North Liberty. She was a graduate of Tyner High School and was a caring mother and homemaker. A celebration of Velma's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. Contributions in memory of Velma B.
