Warren Miller Obituary

SOUTH BEND - Warren B. Miller, 88, of South Bend, died at 2:23 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, in Memorial Hospital following an illness. Mr. Miller was born December 28, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Robert C. and Fannie Mae (Jain) Miller, and was a lifetime area resident. On July 22, 1945, in South Bend, he married Ruth Phyllis Borough, who preceded him in death November 11, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Edwards; a son, Alan D. Miller; and a brother, Dale G. Miller. He is survived by two sons, David Miller (Nancy Mayo-Miller) of Kirklin, IN, and Don Miller (Melody) of Granger, IN; five grandchildren, Kimberly Gish (Greg), Adam and Lani Miller, Karin Ciesolka (John) and Kelly Atkinson; two great-granddaughters, Shyanne and Sierra Ciesolka; daughter-in-law, Anne Watson (Ric) of Mishawaka, IN; and a son-in-law, Thomas Edwards (Brenda) of Pine Bluff, AR. Mr. Miller was a 1940 graduate of South Bend Central High School. He retired as controller of Coca-Cola Bottling in South Bend after 20 years. He had previously been employed at South Bend Office Supply and Equipment, the Standard Oil Co., Paul's Kreamo Bread and Mishawaka Farmer's Dairy. Warren was an Army veteran during World War II, serving in Iran from 1942-1945. He served as a sergeant in the Army's 334th Engineer Regiment and helped train local personnel. He was a wonderful family man and enjoyed all outdoor sports including coaching the children's softball and baseball teams and was a Scout Master and Song Leader with the Boy Scouts. He also enjoyed many wonderful summers with his family at Shavehead Lake. He was an active member for many years at Evangel Heights United Methodist Church. He was active at Sanctuary at St. Paul's where he participated in choir and the bell choir and also loved to sing with his Barbershop Quartet for many years. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7th, in Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, with Rev. Dr. Patrick Somers officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Miller's Vets in the church immediately following the funeral services. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. The family will receive friends in the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46615; or to the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, 3602 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. So sorry to hear about your loss. I was a neighbor and childhood friend of his son Alan. Warren worked out a payment arrangement for my single parent mother to keep our milk deliveries coming. He was a good man! I remember he used to listen to two ball games at once and would report the latest sports updates after a score.
Wish I would have known him better!

Warren was a mainstay of Methodist Men.
His friendly way and booming voice will be much missed. Sorry I was out if town for a week in North Carolina at the time of the services. Betsy and I send our condolences to all the family.

What a nice, nice gentelman Warren was. My husband and I worked with him at Coca Cola Bottling sme 40 years ago. I still remember him in his office singing all the time.
