GRANGER - Roger Allen "Bud" Johnson, 81, formerly of Granger, passed away peacefully while vacationing in Florida on Monday, January 27, 2014. Roger was born to Agnes and John S. Johnson in Elkhart on November 3, 1932. A longtime resident of Granger, Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne, sister, Janet, and his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Mary Louise (Houston). Surviving are his wife, Agnes Scogin-Johnson of Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia; his children, Diane (Mike) Vincek and Scott (Kristine) Johnson; Agnes's children, Sharon (Dean) DeLorme, Wayne (Becky) Holden, Bessie (Leon) Newbille, Donna (Shayne) Mathena and Mark (Lisa) Holden; as well as his brother, Darwin (Betty) Johnson; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jared and Erin Vincek, Madeline Hubbard and Samuel Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He recently began a new chapter of his life marrying Agnes Scogin on June 15th, 2013, and was truly enjoying new-found love and happiness with Agnes and her family. This union added to his family 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a son, a devoted husband, loving father & grandfather and a Navy veteran. A draftsman by trade, "Bud," as he was known, graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1952. He worked at Bendix, Cummins Engine, Dearborn Fabricating and Wheelabrator Frye. He later became co-owner of Pi-Rod Tower in Plymouth. Following his retirement from Pi-Rod, he continued to develop local real estate and owned the Granger Dairy Queen. Bud was a former member of the Sons of Norway - Knute Rockne Chapter #634 and South Bend Elks Lodge #234. He truly was a kind and generous man, and was a mentor to so very many family members, colleagues and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 1, 2014, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Russ Fish will officiate and military honors will be rendered. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, January 31, 2014, as well as one hour prior to services on Saturday in the funeral home.
