WALKERTON - Martin C. Steinke, age 82, of 18091 West 2B Road, Walkerton, Indiana, passed away at 5:32 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014, at his home. Martin was born on October 23, 1931, in La Porte, Indiana, to Carl W. and Martha H. (Pope) Steinke. Martin married the former Joan Strader on May 28, 1961. He was a dairy farmer his entire life. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and loved to bowl with his lodge brothers. Martin had been on the board of directors for Farm Credit several years. He had been a 50-year member of the Tyner IOOF Lodge #821, beginning August 31, 1955, and a member of the American Legion in Walkerton. Martin honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Joan Steinke; their daughter, Sandra (Bill) Kulesar of Walkerton; their son, James Steinke of Walkerton; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and his brother, Carl Steinke of Indianapolis, Indiana.
