SOUTH BEND - Nioma C. Thomas, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Nioma was born December 12, 1920 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to the late Heenan and Irene Carter. On November 23, 1940, she married Otto H. Thomas. He preceded her in death, passing away in March of 1994. Surviving are her children, Eddie Thomas, and Trellis McIntosh, both of South Bend. Nioma is also survived by her sisters Muriel Carpenter and Evalee Barclay. Surviving as well are her grandchildren, Marci Reed, Tim Hulse, Terry Hulse, and Patty Raker, along with her great grandchildren; Ryan (Elizabeth), Katie (Perry), Lindsay, Leanne, Lillian, Jack, Ava, Edward, Jake and Jon and one great-great grandson, Casey. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Carter, her daughter in law, Shirley Thomas, her son in law Garvin McIntosh, a grandson, David Thomas and her great grandson, Josh. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 4:00 pm funeral service on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will be held in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Thomas was employed for twenty years at K-Mart in South Bend as a manager of the appliance department. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time crocheting and being involved with her church. Nioma was a devoted Christian, and was a longtime member of Christian Center Church in South Bend, where she volunteered her time to many of the Church's projects.
