Deacon Charles Q. Mack Feb. 22, 1922 - March 28, 2014 MERRILLVILLE - Deacon Charles Q. Mack, 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014, at home. Deacon Charles Mack was born on February 22, 1922, in Pope, MS, and is the fifth of seven children born to Camel and Rachel Mack. He was a graduate and valedictorian of Hermondale High in Holland, MO. He and his family moved to Hayti, MO, where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Alice Mack. Deacon Mack and Evangelist Mary Mack were blessed with eight children. In the early fifties, the Macks relocated to South Bend, IN. The Mack family were charter members of The Wellington St., Chapel Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Superintendent R.O. Hatchett and Asst. Pastor Simon S. Tabb who eventually took over the leadership. The church moved and became Grace Memorial COGIC. They served as Sunday School Superintendent, leader of the Music Department, and head of the Young Peoples' Willing Workers (YPWW). He also received an Associate degree from CH Mason Bible College. The Macks as Charter Members of Grace Memorial COGIC continued to serve under the leadership of Elder Simon S. Tabb, and eventually Elder Leonard Bush, where their membership remained. After almost fifty years of marriage, Evangelist Mary Mack was called from Labor to Reward. In 1997 Deacon Mack married Irma Wright. Deacon Mack eventually went under Watch Care of Superintendent Ramon Jackson at Victory Temple COGIC in Markham, IL. Deacon Mack worked for over thirty years at The University of Notre Dame until his retirement. There he received a Certificate for Supervisory completion and became the first African American Supervisor at Notre Dame. His entire life was about his faith and helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Camel and Rachel Mack, and his siblings: Missionary Druscilla Brewer, Brother Ephriam Mack, Brother Robert Mack, Evangelist Lula Pearl Butler, and Brother William (Bill) Mack. Deacon Mack leaves to cherish his memory Mother Irma Wright; a Brother, Sinclair Mack, and his eight children: Barbara Mack, Connie Mack, Deacon Charles Q. Mack, Jr. (Brenda), Elder Wayne Mack (Chrystal), Linda Mack, Associate Pastor John Mack (Lisa), Teresa Mack, Brother Richard Mack (Candace); a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC. The visitation will be from 11:00-12:00 pm prior to the services.
