Charles "Doug" Young Sr. Jan. 18, 1937 - May 6, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Charles "Doug" Young Sr. of Mishawaka passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 6th, 2014. He was born in Florence, Alabama, on January 18th, 1937, to Cleve and Edna Young, who preceded him in death. When he was three years old, Doug and his family moved to the Mishawaka area. He met his childhood sweetheart, Sally Ann Werntz, and they were married in March of 1956. Doug was an Estimator and Installer for Millstone Floor Center for 5 years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #161, The Mishawaka Eagles, Goodfellows, and was Past President of the East End Little League where he was also a coach. Doug loved to fish and was an avid bowler for many years, and was a United States Army veteran. He is survived by his son, Charles Young Jr. of Mishawaka, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One sister, Clara Miles of Kentucky, also survives. He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his sisters: Virginia Perkins, Christine Dowdy, Marie Hawkins and Agnes Young. Also preceding him in death were his brothers: John Ray Young, Ralph E. Young, Fred Young and Larry Joe Young. Funeral services for Doug will be held at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, on Friday, May 9th, at 11:00 am where friends will be received from 5 until 7 pm on Thursday. Burial will follow the services at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Center for Hospice. The family would also like to thank the Center for Hospice Care and all the Doctors and Nurses who aided him during his illness. A special thanks is given to Brent Macani for his friendship and care.
