Betty Jo Hoag April 9, 1948 - May 27, 2014 GALIEN - Betty was born April 9, 1948, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, the daughter of Aubrey and Emily (Young) Holt. She moved to Galien, Michigan, as a child and lived there her entire life. After graduation from Galien High School, she attended National Beauty College and graduated with a degree in Cosmetology. On March 23, 1968, she married Edward I. Hoag of Buchanan. Betty was a retired hairdresser and was the Treasurer for the Village of Galien for several years. Betty enjoyed flower gardening and camping with her husband, but her greatest love was her grandchildren. She was affectionately known by all of her nieces, nephews and friends as "Aunt B." Betty is survived by her husband, Edward; children, Corinna (Jay) Stark, of Chesterton, Indiana, and Timothy Scott (Dawn) Hoag of Aurora, Illinois; grandchildren Eddie, Joey, Carmen, Aaden, Balin and Rylan; sister, Kate (Jim) Westveer, and brother, Tim (Marie) Holt, both of Galien; father, Aubrey Holt of Buchanan, Michigan. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Emily Holt, and her aunt, Carrol Maslowski. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Swem Chapel, Buchanan, Michigan, with Pastor Garland Rhodes of the Portage Road General Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Galien Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Swem Chapel in Buchanan from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be sent to the Portage Road General Baptist Church, 1765 Portage Ave., Niles, MI 49120.
