Douglas Knisley June 19, 1950 - June 4, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Douglas Robert Knisley, 63, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at his home. Douglas was born on June 19, 1950, in South Bend, to the late Edgar and Kathryn (Frederick) Knisley and has been a lifelong resident of this area, attending Penn High School. Douglas proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a manufacturing electrician, working for many years at Bendix Corporation, Bayer Corporation, and most recently retiring from Lock Tube Joint. Douglas loved spending time with his family and friends, riding his Harley Motorcycle and traveling to see area lighthouses. He will long be remembered as a "Harley Man" and will be famous for his many "stories" that he told. He also enjoyed hunting, swimming at the pool, and being the life of the party. On July 11, 1998, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Vickie Sue (Dickson) Knisley, who survives. Along with his loving wife, Douglas is survived by his family, Shannon and Paul Hay, and their children, Tyler, Allysa, Alexis and Jessica of LaPorte; Laurie Hover and her children, Grace and Max of Granger; Lisa and Bobby Harwood and their children, Chloe and Jenna of South Bend; stepdaughter, Tracey and Al Vermillion, and their children, Carly and Nate of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Sarah and Tim Bognar of South Bend; and Douglas David and Jamie Knisley of Moore, OK; and his sister, Diane Knisley of South Bend. One brother, Robert E. Knisley preceded in death. Funeral services "Celebrating the Life" of Douglas Robert Knisley will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend where friends may visit with the family for three hours prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 Noon.
