Stephen Konieczny Aug. 17, 1926 - June 8, 2014 LAPORTE - Mr. Stephen "Steve" Konieczny, 87, of LaPorte passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Settlers Place. He was born on August 17, 1926 in LaPorte to Stephen and Marie (Cygan) Konieczny and was a lifelong resident of LaPorte. He was a retired meat cutter with A&P and Al's Grocery and custodian for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. On September 24, 1949 in LaPorte he married Mary Tamlin who survives. Steve was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, member of Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, PRCU, P.N.A., former Knights of Columbus member, 1st ward betterment group, Sacred Heart lecturer, usher and choir member. He was an avid runner and member of the Dunes Running Club. He also was a member of the Sacred Heart Food Pantry and Sacred Heart Parish Council. He is survived by his wife; 3 daughters, Barbara (Robin) Wine of LaPorte, Sally Konieczny (Mike Kahn) of LaPorte and Ann (Bob) Konieczny of LaPorte; 2 sons, Paul (Dawn) Konieczny of Crown Point, IN and John (Alison) Konieczny of Big Rapids, MI; several grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Thomas (Irene) Konieczny and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, 1 son, Mark Konieczny, 1 grandson, Kristopher Wine and 2 brothers, Ted and Bob Konieczny. The Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. The visitation will be on Wednesday, 5-8:00 P.M. & Thursday, 8:30-9:15 A.M. at the Essling Funeral Home. The Rosary will be on Wednesday at 5:30 P.M. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Thursday following the service.
