Richard E. Knappen Aug. 9, 1938 - July 8, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Richard E. Knappen, 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Richard was born on August 9, 1938, in South Bend, to Howard Eugene and Leora Ruth (Burkett) Knappen. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his daughter, Kim Hitchcock of Florence, AL; stepdaughter, Teresa Bollenbacher, and stepson, Dean Bollenbacher, both of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Kaylee and Emily Hitchcock; step-grandchildren, Derek, Drew, Hayden and Deana Bollenbacher; his brother, George (Diane) Knappen; and his nieces and nephews, Holly, Billy, Eddie and Mindy Knappen. Richard was a United States Army veteran. He worked as an Electrician until he retired in 2004. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Richard enjoyed Classic Cars, going to cars shows and auctions, and he enjoyed taking pictures of life around him. As per Richard's wishes there will be no public visitation or services. There will be a private family memorial service. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
