BENTON HARBOR - Kenneth L. Hughes, 61, of Benton Harbor, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Kenneth's life began on May 10, 1951, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Alfred J. and Margaret (Garner) Hughes. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning four bronze stars for his service. Kenneth was a truck driver in civilian life and rode the highways for 42 years. He enjoyed traveling our country, occasionally chasing "wild women," hunting and fishing. His loving family includes his sisters, Pat (Ed Fairbanks) Clemons of Benton Harbor and Almagene Hughes of Harrison, Ark., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings - Clois Hughes, Priscilla Hughes-Williams and Jerry Dale Hughes. His family will gather with friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Yazel & Clark Chapel in Dowagiac, where his funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Hamilton Cemetery, Decatur.
