LAPORTE - Laurel Alison Peterson, age 64, of LaPorte, passed away at 12:12 AM on July 2, 2013, after an extended battle with renal cancer. She was born May 11, 1949, in LaPorte, to Richard and Anne (Hamilton) Wegner. Laurel was a graduate of LaPorte High School and received teaching degrees from Ball State and Purdue University. She was a teacher in the LaPorte Community School Corporation for 31 years. Her hobbies included cross-stitching and scrapbooking. She loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. Laurel was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaPorte. On November 11, 1983, she married Dale Peterson, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Anne (Hamilton) Wegner of LaPorte; sons, Patrick (Kim) Hoehne of Carmel, IN, and Todd (Julie) Peterson of Remington, IN; sister, Lynn Lee of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Nicole Parks, Ashley and Blake Peterson, and Camryn Hoehne; as well as Betty Brown, Diane Peterson, and Clare Soltys of South Bend. Preceding her in death were her father, Richard Wegner, and son, Jeremy Hoehne. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Sunday, July 7, 2013, from 4- 8 pm and on Monday from 10 AM until time of service at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 8, 2013, at the funeral home, with Rev. Evan Lash of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
