MISHAWAKA - Harry R. Van Vooren, 86, passed away in his home on Monday, October 14, 2013. Harry was born on January 17, 1927 in Mishawaka as the son of Theophil and Susan (Vervaet) Van Vooren. He was preceded in death by his parents. On May 6, 1950 in St. Bavo Catholic Church he married the former Lorraine Speybroeck. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2008. Surviving are three sons, Andy (Philomena) Van Vooren of South Bend, James (Sandy) Van Vooren of Granger and Steve (Janice) Van Vooren of Osceola; six grandchildren, Cynthia Van Vooren, Julie (Ronald) Fleming, Nicole Van Vooren, Brandon Van Vooren, Andrea (Kelly) Christensen and Eric Van Vooren; and three great-grandchildren, Collin and Alex Fleming, and Salena Van Vooren. Harry was a Salesman for National Mill Supply for 34 years before he retired in 1989. After retirement, he worked several years for Van Vooren Construction. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the VFW Post 360, BK Club and Mishawaka Alumni Club. Harry loved and cherished his family; he was a loving caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also an avid Notre Dame Fan. As per Harry's wishes there will be no visitation. There will be a gathering of family on Thursday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, which has been entrusted with handling arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Harry's name to The Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Pkwy., Ste. 200, Mishawaka, IN 46545-1440 or to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 502 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
