SOUTH BEND - Norman L. Clear, 80, residing in South Bend, passed away Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013. He was born January 14, 1933, in Clinton County, IN, to the late Lloyd and Sarah (Bogue) Clear. Norman graduated from Frankfort High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Purdue University. He served in the U.S. Army, where he worked on rocket fuels at the White Sands Missile Base. On July 1, 1956, Norman married his beloved wife, Crystal Belle Livengood, making her Crystal Clear. Together they raised two boys, Brian and Bradley. Norm enjoyed bowling, participating for many decades in league bowling. He was an avid fisherman from his childhood days and delighted in taking his wife, children and grandchildren fishing at Kentucky Lake. Norm was a faithful servant of the Lord. As a member of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, he served as a lay leader, did regular visiting at nursing homes and hospitals and served whenever he was needed. Norm worked as a chemist at Koppers, Bendix, US Aviex, Environmental Instrument Systems and Fas-Pak. In addition to his loving wife, Crystal, Norm leaves to remember him in love his sons, Brian and his wife, Coleen, and Bradley and his wife, Lynn. Norman was a wonderful and loving grandfather to Brian's children, Kerry and his wife, Heidi, Kelly and his wife, Lidiya, Katherine and her husband, Jordan, Kimberly, Kasey, Kelsey, Kristen and Kevina. He was also a superlative and caring grandfather to Brad's children, Bradley and Heather. Norm also has nine great-grandchildren, Maria, Stuart, Abigail, Morgan, Gilbert, Benjamin, Rosie, Jesse and Hannah, who are blessed to have such an encouraging great-grandpa. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nelda Clear. Funeral services for Norman will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 2, 2013, in Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, with Rev. Dr. Patrick Somers officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 pm today, November 1, 2013, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, as well as one hour prior to services on Saturday in the church.
