PAW PAW, MI - Daniel Robert DeVos Sr. passed away peacefully at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center-Battle Creek, on January 10, 2014. Danny was born in South Bend, IN, on May 22, 1929, the son of Achiel and Cecilia DeVos. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 21 1/2 years aboard several ships and shore stations. Following his honorable discharge, he worked at South Bend Range, Lakeview Community Hospital, and as a security guard. Danny married Betty Spencer in Bayonne, NJ, on August 14, 1952, and they had 61 1/2 wonderful years of marriage together including the last 36 years at Three Mile Lake in Paw Paw. Danny was an avid fisherman and an all-around handyman as evidenced by his work on mobile homes on the lake. He especially enjoyed fishing with his family, dancing, and playing cards. Surviving are his wife, Betty DeVos of Paw Paw; sons, Daniel Jr. and Richard DeVos of South Bend; daughters Sandra Ivey of Dumas, Ark., Pamela (Ben) Koch of North Liberty, IN, Sharon (Gary) Evans and Diana (William) Lippert of South Bend, and Brenda (Timothy) Davis of Paw Paw. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald DeVos of South Bend; and a sister, Sherry of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Allen Keiser, and brother, Richard. There will be no visitation or service. A private memorial with the family will be held at a later date.
