MISHAWAKA - Joseph F. Forte Sr., 89, formerly of Mishawaka, died Friday March 7, 2014 at 3:35 pm surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born April 12, 1924 in Clinton, IN to the late Joseph and Mary (Civilotti) Forte. Also preceding him in death are his siblings and their spouses, Angelo (Mary) Forte, Teresa (Chuck) Nyers, John (Marie) Forte and his brother in law, Andrew Casper. On June 14, 1952, Joseph married the former E. Jean Waligorski. She survives along with one son, Joseph (Carolyn) Forte of Osceola, IN; three grandchildren, Tiffany (Emanuel) Forte-Caraman of South Bend, IN, Erica Forte (Kevin Violette) of Mesa, AZ and Joseph "Brent" (Leigha) Forte of Granger, IN; along with one great grandson, Brayden Joseph Forte. Also surviving is his sister, Jenny Casper of Niles, MI; along with his nieces and nephews, William "Bill" Casper, Chuck (Debbie) Nyers, Rosetta Ferraro, Jennie (Andy) Burke and Dennis Forte. For 10 years Joseph was Co-owner Forte Groceries in Mishawaka. After leaving the business he began working for Prudential Insurance, eventually retiring after 30 years of service. Joseph and Jean loved to travel; their adventures took them all over the United States. Joseph loved spending time with his family; they have always been the biggest priority in his life. He was always so concerned about them, and he loved to provide and share a meal with them. Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Mishawaka and a member of the Mishawaka High School Alumni group. Joseph or as they affectionately call him, "Papa" will be missed terribly by everyone that knew him. Visitation for Joseph will be held on Monday March 10th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Mishawaka at 10:00 am on Tuesday March 11, 2014. Please meet at the church. Entombment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka, with Military Rites being conducted by American Legion 161 / VFW 360 Mishawaka Burial Squad.
