Robert August Hurst

Robert August Hurst Dec. 20, 1946 - Sept. 17, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Robert August Hurst, (Bob / "Bones"), 67, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. Bob was born on December 20th, 1946 in South Bend, IN to Benton E. Hurst and Virginia (Doll) Hurst, who preceded him in death. Bob grew up in Mishawaka and attended St. Joseph Grade School, and then Mishawaka High School where he graduated in 1965. For 32 years, he worked at Eagle Pet Products where he managed plant operations, amongst other roles. Bob married his true love Judith Mary Cocquyt in 1971 in Mishawka, IN. They were happily married for 43 years, and built a home filled with love, kindness, and support where everyone was welcome. Bob had the uncanny ability to make you smile at the worst of times, was selfless and always sought the best in any situation. Despite having Multiple Sclerosis for over 23 years, Bob never let it get him down. His laughter and wit were infectious. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren; there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family. He had a love for classic cars (especially the Shelby Cobra), action movies and football: Notre Dame and the Bears of course! Bob was a member St. Bavo Catholic Church, Coachman Car Club of Michiana, and the BK Club. Over the years Bob and Judi have been very active in supporting many local philanthropic organizations. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Judi of South Bend, IN, and his three children, daughter, Nicole Marie (Brian) Smith of Chicago, IL; son, Ryan August (Julianne) Hurst of Johnson City, TN; devoted son, Travis Robert Hurst of South Bend, IN; his four grandchildren, Jackson Adams Hurst, Eva Marie-Rose Hurst, Sophia Sarah Smith and Henry Robert Smith; his siblings, Benton (Sue) Hurst of Mishawaka, IN, Paul Hurst of Mishawaka, IN, Becky Bandy of Mishawaka, IN, Carl Hurst of Tucson, AZ, Deborah (Dennis) Van Bruaene of Mishawaka, IN, and Dennis Hurst of Mishawaka, IN, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 21 at Hahn Funeral Home located at 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka, IN 46544 at 2 to 6 PM. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bavo Catholic Church at 511 W. 7th Street Mishawaka, IN 46544 at 10 AM, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum, Mishawaka.
