Curtis Montgomery Obituary

Curtis Jerry Montgomery May 17, 1960 - Feb. 4, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Curtis Jerry Montgomery, beloved son, father, brother, and husband, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on February 4, 2015. Curtis had a passion for the best things in life and his lifelong success is evidence of his strong work ethic and drive. He was a graduate of Northwood High School, class of 1978, graduated from Purdue University in 1982, and received a Master's Degree in Science from the University Notre Dame. Curtis was a successful writer and publisher of books about investing. He also holds multiple patents in his name from his time as a microbiologist and was an avid wine connoisseur. In the late 90s, he moved to Singapore where he enjoyed a rewarding career investing in the stock market, wine futures, and co-owned a prosperous wine store. His return to the Michiana area in 2009 was a happy time for Curtis and his family. In the following years he became interested in organic farming and started New Road Natural Farms with his two sons. The father-and-sons team then continued with the purchase of The Woodland Inn. During this period of his life, he also met his wife and witnessed the birth of his grandson. He is survived by his two sons, Chad and Samuel Montgomery; his wife, Janet; his mother, Priscilla Mason (Jack); his sister, Lynn Haberland (Todd); and his grandson, Gage. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lori L. Montgomery, and his father, Jerry E. Montgomery. A celebration of Curtis' life will take place at the residence of his mother and stepfather (67550 Beech Rd., Wakarusa), with a carry-in dinner on Sunday, February 15, from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Curtis' name.

Only weeks ago I had learned of the death of Curt's sister Lori, who I knew in the '70s, and had written a letter to Jerry to express my condolences belatedly; the letter was returned to me yesterday. That led me to this notice about Curt. I feel so sad for all of you and your many losses. Bless all of you in this time of sorrow.

The NWHS Class of 1978 lost a great one. Never loud or boastful. Always kind and smiling. To the Montgomery family, no one will ever forget him. And every time I "tee it up", he'll be thought of.

Curtis has joined the angels but will be missed by all who knew him. We knew each other in high school. The best memories are of him always being in such a happy mood. He received many gifts in life. Now he's in a place to receive even more. I'm out of town the 15th, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Curt, God called you home way to early in my opinion. Lynn will be sure to watch over Mom as you knew she always would. Your family will forever admire you great wit, love of live, courage to chase a dream and make it real. We miss you and love you brother! Keep Dad and Laurie out of trouble until we get there to help! In the meantime rest assured, Lynn and I will be always be there for Chad and Sam.
