Robert Edwin DePuy of Kennett Square Robert Edwin DePuy, 91, of Kennett Square, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013. Bob was born on Nov. 27, 1921 in New York City, son of the late Chauncey M. and Ella W. Abel DePuy. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Payne DePuy ; his brother Walter DePuy; son Robert E. DePuy, Jr., and great-grandsons, Maxwell and Edwin Bauman. Bob spent his childhood in New York, Germany and Italy. His education continued at the Pennington School in New Jersey and Purdue University where he earned a B.S. in chemical engineering. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron, Ohio, and by E. I. DuPont Company Elastomers Department in Wilmington, Del., as a technical service representative. He lived with his wife Gloria and five children on Sills Mill Road in Kennett Township. After his retirement in 1982, Bob moved with Gloria to Crosslands. He became an active volunteer. He served as a gardener and wildflower seed collection specialist at the Brandywine River Conservancy in Chadds Ford. He was an art teacher in the Academy of Lifelong Learning affiliated with the University of Delaware and assistant editor for the Kennett Township Newsletter. He sang or played his harmonica or guitar for the ALL Chorus and barbershop quartet, the Geritones, and sang with the West Chester Chordbusters. He taught wildflower identification during walks at nearby state parks. He became popular as a watercolorist and exhibited and sold paintings around the Brandywine Valley. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret D. Swan (husband Dallas) of Onancock, Va.; daughter Kathleen D. Bauman (husband Donald) of Alburtis Pa.; daughter Elizabeth D. VanderMale (husband Robert) of Lansdale; son Richard A. DePuy (wife Lorraine) of Burnt Hills N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Thomas (wife Cara), Ronald, Donald, Joseph (wife Jamie), Tess, Jeannette (husband Shane), Timothy (wife Mary), Glen, Carolyn; great-granddaughter, Lily; and great-grandsons, Ty and Trey. Joining the family in their time of sorrow is Mrs. Betty Taylor, Bob's special friend for the last 10 years of his life. A memorial will be held at Crosslands at a later date.
