Douglas S. Horne of Chadds Ford Douglas S. Horne, 79, of Chadds Ford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 after a long illness. He was born in 1934, the son of the late Douglas and Vesta Horne in Elmwood Park, Ill. Douglas graduated from Cal Poly Tech, San Luis Obispo, Calif. and earned an MBA from Northwestern University. He worked with the International Harvester Company, Chicago, Ill. for 27 years and then moved to Chadds Ford in 1986 where he was Executive Vice President for Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Bridgeport, N.J, retiring in 2000. His greatest joys were spending time at the beach with his family and building model railroad cars, his life's great passion. He also proudly served as Captain in the U.S. Army for four years prior to his International Harvester position. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 27 years, Sandi H. Horne of Chadds Ford; his beloved pets, Ethyl and Cooper; son, Dale (Laura) of Mason, Ohio; daughters, Danette (Rich) Maxwell of Smyrna and Dana Dalton of Ft. Collins, Colo.; granddaughters, Gena Horne of Ariz., Nicole Horne of Ohio, Ashley Gsell of Smyrna; and four great-grandsons; and sister, Marcia Casey of Calif. A Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24th, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington, DE, 19807, where friends and family called beginning at 10 a.m. Interment was private. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Neighborhood Health and Neighborhood Hospice, West Chester, for the care and attention they gave to Doug and his family.
