Pax Thomas Williams of Kennett Square Pax Thomas Williams, 54, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2014 while scuba diving. Pax was born in Wilmington, Del. He graduated from Newark High School, and went on to college at the University of Delaware where he received bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, and computer science in 1982 and 1985. Pax was an accomplished competitive swimmer and never lost his love of the water. Pax married Kathleen McKearin in 1985 and lived for 17 years in Maryland before moving to Kennett Square in 2002. Pax worked in the area of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defense technology for over 28 years, first as a civilian employee of the Department of Defense, and then for Battelle Memorial Institute. He led the technical development of multiple pieces of equipment currently employed to protect soldiers from CBRN threats. In addition to the wide technical expertise required, Pax was known within the CBRN community for being exceptionally kind to all of the staff that worked with him on these programs. Pax was a devoted father, husband, recent grandfather and great friend. Pax loved skiing, hiking, scuba diving and cycling and enjoyed all of these activities and more with his family and friends. Pax is survived by his wife, Kathy; his son Sean Williams; daughter Casey Irwin, son-in-law Scott Irwin and his precious granddaughter, Gwen Irwin; his parents, Ralph and Bernice Williams; and his brothers, Rim and Todd Williams. A viewing was held on Thursday, May 29th, at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. The funeral service was held on Friday, May 30th, at Willowdale Chapel Kennett Square, with burial immediately following at Head of Christiana Cemetery in Newark, Del.
