Billy Ray Blankenship

BEECH CREEK, W.Va. — Billy Ray Blankenship, 73, of Beech Creek, went home to be with the Lord Mon., Dec. 9, 2013, at his home following a lingering illness.

Born September 16, 1940, at O'Keefe, he was a son of the late Howard and Emma Thompson Blankenship. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Ila Cisco.

Billy Ray was a faithful member of the Ben Creek Church of Christ. He was a retired coal miner from Kentucky Carbon Coal Corp. of Phelps, Ky., and a member of the UMWA.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Murphy Blankenship; three daughters, Barbara (Mike) Smith of Pikeville, Ky., Kathy Hatfield of Blackberry City, and Kimberly (Charles "Magoo") Dixon of McCarr, Ky.; one brother, J.P. Blankenship of Beech Creek; seven sisters, Estalene Jones and Dorothy Fitch, both of Piqua, Ohio, Opal Thacker of Williamson, Tena Clemons of Pikeville, Ky., Nelma Ruth Estepp and Judy Kennedy, both of Beech Creek, and Betty Smith of Meador; eight grandchildren, Kourtni Hatfield (John) Young, Austin and Braxton Hatfield, Holli, Wendi and Misti Smith, and Joshua and Zachary Dixon, and a host of friends.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Fri., Dec. 13, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Gene Clemons and Rocky Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Blankenship Cemetery at Beech Creek with Josh Dixon, Austin Hatfield, Zachary Dixon, Charles "Magoo" Dixon, John Young, Mike Smith, and Chris Hatfield serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearer will be Braxton Hatfield.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
