
MADISON, W.Va. — Bernard E. "Jack" Charcandy, 74, of Madison, died Thurs., Jan. 30, 2014, at Boone Memorial Hospital at Madison.
He was a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA, and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Marguerite Charcandy; sisters, Ruby Gains, Geraldine Michaels and Betty Ball, and a brother, Arthur Buck Charcandy.
Survivors include his wife, Judith; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann and husband Wayne Workman of Madison; sisters, Virginia Thompson of Madison, Effie Spencer and Janet McCormick both of Virginia, Judy Norvell of Flatwoods, Gloria Burger of Dunbar, Lana Charcandy of Danville and Dottie McVey of South Charleston, and brothers, Donald "Tom" Charcandy of Madison and Robert Charcandy of Danville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Mon., Feb. 3, at Handley Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Bias officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens at Madison with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 of Madison.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
