CHARLES REAFORD VARNEY, 86, of South Williamson, Ky., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Morristown Hamblen Healthcare. Charles was born March 2, 1932, to the late Verlin Varney and Pearl Hensley Varney. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie D. Varney; daughter, Susan Rose Varney; adopted son, Verlin Leon Varney; stepdaughter, Brenda Borg; brothers, William "Bill" Varney and J. B. Varney; and brother-in-law, Lonzo Stanley. Charles was a retired assembly line worker for Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed bowling until 2017, and previously served for the Belfry Volunteer Fire Department. He always desired to help everyone, that was his passion. If you had a problem he could help with, he was there. He also loved spending time with his grandkids. Charles is survived by his children, Charles (Diane) Varney of Milan, Mich., Phillip (Sylvia) Varney of Crossville, Tenn., Steve Varney of Grass Lake, Mich., Christinia (Jonah) Varney of South Williamson, Ky., Virginia (Jimmy Browning) Preece of Stone, Ky., and Heidie (Robert) Bailey of Jackson, Mich.; his stepdaughter, Jackie Brown of Jackson, Mich.; his stepson, John Dotson; his brothers, Elmer (Goldie) Varney of Whitaker, Mich., George Varney of Livonia, Mich., David Varney of Wyoming; his sister, Rita Getchey of Monroe, Mich.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home with Gerria Reynolds and Dennis Hinkle officiating Burial will follow at Hensley Cemetery, Stone, Ky., with Tony Varney, Steve Varney, Robert Bailey, Cody Davis, Charles Smith, Bo Preece, Matthew Totten, and Dustin Engle serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Monday night from 6 to 9 p.m., with special services at 7 p.m. R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky., is serving the family.
