BELFRY, Ky. — Nellie M. Blankenship, 76, of Belfry, Ky., went home to be with the Lord Thurs., May 8, 2014, at Pikeville Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Born April 25, 1938, in Aiken, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Luther and Beatrice Prior Key. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Blankenship; sisters, Jeanette Smith and Judy Key, and brother, Rayford Key.
Nellie was a wonderful and loving mother, granny, sister and aunt to many.
Survivors include her son, Charles "P-Nut" (Sheila) Blankenship of Williamson; daughters, Vickie Lockard of Louisa, Ky., Delinda (Micheal) Jones of Sevierville, Tenn., Patricia (Richard "Dough") Blackburn of Goody, Ky., and Shelia (Tracy) Schwerin of Belfry; sisters, Linda (Henry) Wingard of Aiken, and Unice Key of Augusta, Ga.; brothers, Leroy (Ann) Key of North Augusta, S.C., and Albert Key of Graniteville, S.C.; grandsons, Steven Smith and Ryan (Samantha) Smith, both of Sevierville, Tenn., Cody and Tyler Schwerin of Belfry, and Jackie and B.J. Lockard of Louisa; granddaughters, Whitney and Megan Blackburn of Goody, Ky., and Belinda (Mark) Owens of Delbarton; two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Shaylynn Smith of Sevierville, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Mon., May 12, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Carol Church and Paul Thompson officiating. Her son, Charles "P-Nut" Blankenship, will read her obituary and have a special word of prayer. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky., with grandsons, Cody and Tyler Schwerin, Jackie and B.J. Lockard, and Ryan Smith and sons-in-law, Tracy Schwerin, Richard "Dough" Blackburn and Mike Jones serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home with special singing services Sunday at 7 p.m.
