Wood Keesee Jr.

VANCEBURG, Ky. — Wood Ray Keesee Jr., 79, of Vanceburg, Ky., formerly of Belfry, Ky., passed away suddenly Fri., April 25, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Born Oct. 1, 1934, in Belfry, he was a son of the late Wood Ray Sr. and Katherine Stallard Keesee. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son Ray Keesee III; daughter-in-law, Angie Henry Keesee; grandson Ray Keesee IV, and numerous other family members.

Wood was a 1952 graduate of Belfry High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University.

During his career, he was involved in and held positions in numerous civic activities. He was a past member of the Pike County Board of Education and he was very active in the county and state political scenes. Additionally, he was involved with the Belfry Athletic Association, was a Mason and a Kentucky Colonel, and a longtime member of the Belfry United Methodist Church. He retired as a self-employed entrepreneur.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Burriss Keesee; one son Terrance M. (Leisa) Keesee of Clintwood, Va.; one daughter Katie (Brian) Clark of Belfry; the mother of their children, Sue Gaye Keesee of Belfry; one step-son, John (Anne) Denham of Colorado; three step-daughters, Anita (Allen) Kintish of New Hampshire, and Julie (Scott) Neilsen and Jill (Mark) Fielder, both of Nicholasville, Ky.; and 15 grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by a host of family and friends.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tues., April 29, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Keesee Family Cemetery at Belfry with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
