SARDIS, Ohio — Melvin Maynard, 64, of Sardis, Ohio, died Mon., June 23, 2014, at his home.

Born Feb. 3, 1950 in Holden, he was a son of late Lester and Lorrain Brown Maynard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Eugene Maynard.

He was employed by Ohio Valley Coal, Murray Energy, Catholic by faith, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and a member of the VFW Post 9930 at Duffy, Ohio, and American Legion Post 760 at Hannibal, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Veda Maynard; one son, Shawn (Lyndsay) Maynard of Shadyside, Ohio, and special granddaughter, Emma Maynard; a daughter, Michelle Maynard of Chapmanville, and grandson, Zack Maynard; a special step-daughter, Donielle (Steve) Priddy of St. Albans, and step grandson, Jacob Priddy; three brother, Marvin (Theresa) Maynard of Logan Charlie Maynard of Chapmanville and Lester Maynard of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Carla, Debbie, and Kathy, and two special nieces, Kellie (Larry) Lucas and Kaylee Maynard.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Grisell Funeral Home 37234 Mound St., Sardis, Ohio.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
