Joyce Roddy

SOUTH WILLIAMSON, Ky. — Joyce Lusk Roddy, 77, of South Williamson, Ky., passed away Sun., Aug. 10, 2014, at Williamson Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born July 16, 1937, in Williamson, she was a daughter of the late Charles R. and Frankie Reed Lusk. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick Roddy, and two brothers, Reverend Larry L. Lusk and Charles R. "Brother" Lusk.

Joyce was a graduate of Williamson High School and Marshall University where she earned a master's degree in education. She was a Thundering Herd cheerleader during her time at Marshall. She was a supporter of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation. Joyce taught physical education for many years and she later taught business classes at the Mingo County Career Center prior to her retirement.

Joyce was very active in the church, social and civic affairs of Williamson throughout her lifetime. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Williamson where she sang in the choir and was presently serving as the organist. She was involved in numerous ministries including Dynamic Adults and was a member of the Viola Randolph Mission Society. She faithfully attended circle meetings. She was often called upon to drive the church van. She was the official driver for any function involving the women of the church. She made every bus trip fun and enjoyable. She also involved with the annual Bible Basketball Camp.

She was a member of the Williamson Women's Club; AAUW; served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Williamson Railroad Museum; she was involved each year with the Cancer Society Relay for Life; she enjoyed meeting with friends of the Sew Sew Knitting Group; she sang in the Tug Valley Choral Society for a number of years and she was a volunteer at the Coal House in downtown Williamson. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Williamson High School Athletic Hall of Fame and one of its first inductees.

Joyce was a giver. She gave freely of herself. She loved people and she cherished her numerous friendships. She was gracious and always a pleasure to be with.

Joyce loved and served God with a joyful heart. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and loving disposition.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Paul) Smith of Powder Springs, Ga., and Kim Roddy of South Williamson; three granddaughters, Katie Roddy, Lindsey Roddy and Hailey Smith; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Lusk of Cleveland, Tenn., and Linda Lusk of York, Pa.; a niece and two nephews. Joyce is also survived by a host of loving friends who enriched her life.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday evening, August 13, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 14, at the mortuary. The Reverend Jarod Belcher will officiate. Interment is in Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Men of the First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
